The Power of Storytelling:

How Culture and Training Attract Great Talent

At my house, Christmas movies start rolling as soon as the last trick-or-treater leaves on Halloween night. We don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving, but we soak up Christmas movies for the full two months leading up to the big day. This year, it hit me—when’s the last time we had a really great Christmas movie? It feels like they don’t make them like they did in the late ‘90s. Think The Santa Clause, Christmas Vacation, or timeless classics like White Christmas.

That said, if you haven’t seen Red One yet—do yourself a favor and watch it. This movie has all the makings of a future Christmas classic: incredible world-building, twists you don’t see coming, and a fresh take on a story we’ve heard a hundred times. Instead of the same old Santa tale, they reimagined it in a way that’s completely new but still totally believable.

And there’s a lesson here for business and sales. Just like some classic Christmas stories start to feel irrelevant as technology changes, businesses can run into the same problem. What once worked—like phone books or landline phones—might not hold up in today’s world. The magic of Red One is how it embraces today’s technology and rebrands Santa in a way that feels modern, relatable, and exciting.

The same principle applies in business: staying relevant means adapting, evolving, and reimagining the story you’re telling.

The Power of Storytelling: How Culture and Training Attract Great Talent

Every great team has a story. Santa’s elves aren’t just building toys; they’re part of a mission that’s bigger than themselves. That’s what keeps the story alive year after year—belief, purpose, and pride in the work. Manufacturing teams are no different. When a company creates a culture of shared purpose and backs it with great training, they don’t just fill jobs—they build teams people want to be part of.

A strong culture tells a story that resonates. It says, “We care about our people. We invest in their growth. We win together.” Training becomes more than a set of skills—it’s proof that employees are valued, capable, and trusted to contribute. When people see a future for themselves, they lean in. They show up for more than just the paycheck; they show up because the work matters, and so do they.

Too often, companies focus on what they need from their employees but miss the chance to share what they offer. A strong narrative—one that highlights growth, learning, and connection—attracts people who are looking for more than just a job. It inspires talented individuals to choose your team because they see the potential to learn, grow, and take pride in the work they do every day.

If you want to attract and keep great talent, start with your story. What does it say about your team, your culture, and your future? When people hear it, will they want to be part of it? A great culture isn’t built overnight, but it starts with purpose—and that’s a story worth telling.
